Rare 90s Xuly Bët Floral Halter Dress

$400.00

XS-S

This full-length halter dress is cut from an exceptionally soft, lightweight stretch material designed to closely follow and hug the body. It has a plunging V-neckline with shaped bust panels, an open upper back and extended halter straps that tie behind the neck, allowing some adjustment in fit. The long, streamlined silhouette falls close through the torso and hips before continuing to the ankle.

Covered throughout in a dense multicolor floral print with orchids and abstract floral motifs in purple, violet, turquoise, blue, red, white and black. Contrasting multicolor stitching runs along the exposed edges and seams, emphasizing the construction of the garment. An exterior red XULY.Bët / Funkin’ Fashion textile label is incorporated into the design.

Archival XULY.Bët by Malian designer Lamine Badian Kouyaté. XULY.Bët emerged in Paris in the early 1990s and became known for an unconventional approach to body-conscious dressing, upcycling, exposed construction and highly recognizable stretch garments. The name XULY.Bët comes from Wolof and is commonly translated as “open your eyes wide.” Kouyaté launched his first collection in the early 1990s and became an important figure in Paris fashion through his experimental presentations and “Funkin’ Fashion” philosophy.
